Default Whats your favorite mmorpg

Just a couple things that has to be taken into account before you answer.

It has to be completely free. GW has a cover price so it doesn't count. It can have payment options for special items and whatnot but the majority of the game can be played for free. Like in Maple story you can buy outfits but its not necessary.

A game that's still updated frequently enough.

Runescape doesn't count ^_^

I'm looking for a new mmo right now to play inbetween Oblivion and pokemon since I kinda quit GW. Three years is a bit much for one game lol.

Requiem Bloodymare

You've got to be 17 and above to play.

Yuliya Geikhman - New York MMORPG Examiner has a rather good but not excellent review

what it does not have: a story, sigh. but so far, I've try 3, Rohan-Blood Feud, 9Dragon and Requiem.

Yeah, don't bother with 9Dragon lol, a very nice concept of mmorpg, but its 1) ugly, 2) hard to learn to play 3) direction given by the npc are TEXT OF WALL and everything is all over the place, for instant, you cannot cancel conversation, if you want to do so, the button is not with the floating window lol, this is hilarious, its at the chat box where you would type in your text/chat material. has only 2 character type lol a male and female :P~ comes with several different hair and 3 different outfit from the beginning. i uninstall so wouldn't know what comes next, the only thing that's good about this game is that it has the fastest download time, since the client is only 900+ mb. but i guess cos no one else was downloading

Requiem turn out to be the best of all the 3 free to play. off course they have to survive and have the usual basic pack and premium pack non of which you need to advance in the game. they also have special costume, like astronauts suits, bunny suits that you can buy in their item mall.

however its free to play forever.

It does have a flaw. Some of the ip address are blocked by their server. like how irc (internet relay chat) would do. I think this explain why they do not have RMT people spamming their chat channel. I am talking not even one since a week ago I started playing.

Requiem is
soloable, no hero/hench, has instance dungeons, i have not reach that stage yet, have server vs server battle, has pvp (not participated yet) has cute monsters lol. although the server battle happens around the clock, i don't know how active players are in this area as I have no guild not talk to anyone yet, yeap, its not very friendly like environment, but i do see lots of players chatting in spanish, lots of europe players is my guess.

Rohan
If you want 1vs1 challenge, and pvp Rohan-blood feue is the one to get. it just got so tedious for me to level up the character , you know, go kill 3 varg, go kill another 10 talking tree and bring me their branches, but it has friendly environment. players will buff and help if they see you in trouble, also its quite easy to find pugs.

I wanted to try The Chronicles of Spellborn - too bad it was not available in my region.

or you can try out all these and we can exchange notes lololol

ah, z axis and the ability to run and fight at the same time, just wonderful. master that and you don't have to use another vial of health potion ever. i bought 20 3 days ago, still have them.

I came here ready to say S4 League but remembered it was neither MMO or RPG. Anywayyyyyyyysssss. I've tried a TON of free MMORPGs and very few leave a lasting impression.

Last Chaos: Was fun, I started in open beta, it has a really cool combat system (if you want to call it that). It's a standard point and click MMORPG like Lineage 2, but the GMs were always online having contests. They'd get everyone's attention in the middle of town, and just randomly drop nice items on the ground, they all had a timer before they could be picked up so it made things extra fun. The combat is enjoyable for the most part. You can hit multiple enemies that get in front of you, and thus you end up fighting hordes of enemies simultaneously. The grind got bad really fast though, so I'd still say this one is iffy.

Cabal Online= LOL! Although the combat system is super fun later on, this game is a walking joke. Everyone is a clone, bots and spammers are everywhere, it's a sad attempt at making a badass MMO.

Rappelz: Grindy Lineage 2 wannabe. Nothing positive to say other than the pet system, which is really interesting. You can tame most creatures, but require a card to do so. The bad thing is that you have a high chance of failure to catch the cool looking and/or powerful ones, so meh.

Perfect World: Graphics are amazing for something free to play, it's not THAT grindy, and has lots of quests to do, although they're all generally similar. Kill 40 of this, now run 10 miles to talk to this guy who just ends up sending you back anyway. The world is big, and encourages players to explore with flying mounts and one races natural ability to fly from level 1. Interesting classes, and it doesn't shove it's cash shop in your face at every opportunity, most things are actually cosmetic (special mounts, dye, clothing). The community is good, very good in fact that there's little drama if ever, and there's almost always a GM hanging around somewhere.

Yeah, my vote is for Perfect World.

Bloodymare I think I tried and despite having a nice laptop i couldn't run it well....weird.

Cabal was funny. I was impressed with graphics but....that was about it lol. I might try chronicles of spellborn if i can.

Is perfect world the one where you can fly? I think I liked it but never got into it really so I'd like to redownload and try again.

Perfect World, Rappelz, Lunia (I liked it), Dragonica (coming out, looks sweet), Rohan, and Archlord (grindy, but I liked playing it).

Out of all of these, I liked Lunia and Rappelz the most. I can't wait to try Dragonica though :3

And to be quite honest, I don't play games at all anymore.

Phantasy Start Online Blue Burst.

They closed down the original servers, there's a really good private server up though. No trouble finding a group at all.

WoW, GW, Warhammer.

Insane someone else here tried Requiem, though. Tried it myself for a bit, felt pretty grindy. Did they give it some nice fixes, Pumpkin? If so I'd probably pick it up again.

But I'd probably do so anyways just because playing as a male Kruxena was incredibly awesome (then again it may be because I'm comfortable with my sexuality and hence love the look!).

Damn, now I *do* wanna pick it up again...

When I tried Requiem it was laggy as hell so I uninstalled it after...5 minutes?

I kinda want to try Rohan again though.

I too, have tried most free mmo's out there. I keep downloading different games thinking it'll be something different, but it's usually the same.

One game I never got to try was Runes of Magic (has two classes like GW). My internet would always turn off before I got down dl'ing the client...

The OP said free to play and not GW.

Iv'e never really found a FTP MMORPG that i really enjoyed, most either had bad graphics, were repetitive, gameplay was crap, or to do anything fun in the game you had to use their real $$ store.

Although they say Requiem is for adult, I find that some of the monsters are, actually looking very "pokemonish". except off course, the twitching before drawing your last breath and blood splatters all over your screen, and a dungeon fill with giant penis guard, hahahaha.

I can't answer if they have make it any less grindy because all the quests, I mean all of them are the same, only different npc gives it to you with their different reasons for you to kill monster ABC or monster DEF and how many they need you to kill, and slowly leading you to kill higher level monsters and further into the map/game. But then again which other mmorpg does not uses this type of questing to guide their players thru the game, ey. (i should have said, except Guild Wars, got to appreciate its waves of enemies type of quests and missions) that's why after doing some quests, i always attempt to find some monsters that's way above my own level and try to kill it just for the fun of it. Oh, their death penalty is minus your experience points. sucks sometimes. lol but fun trying not to die so much.

Why I choose this very game is becasue
1) Its quite beautiful actually,
2) It does not have even one RMT toon that is spamming the chat channel, not one, hence very quiet.
3) I like the "nightmare" system. for instant, different creatures/monsters spawn at different game hours. nightmare monsters are actually a nightmare to kill!
4) I like the character development system. But theres a flaw in this that you cannot back step your attribute/skill points.
5) I am quite intrique by how the game lets you runs around, and still be able to fight while doing so. Its sort of like testing out what GW2 wants to do before it actually hits the market

Below is my elementalist/druid, haven't decide which path I want to set her on yet. I am keeping all the skill points so I can use them on better skills and skill mastery later on, while I collect some gold so that i can alter her DNA (altering them enhances your skills)
